About the game

This is an interactive chemistry game for high school students on the IUPAC nomenclature of aliphatic organic compounds.
Grades: 10 & 11
Time: 30- 40 mins.
Skills you will learn: Ability to make structures of an aliphatic organic compound when given its name as per IUPAC system.
Teacher Notes: This game will help students draw the structures of aliphatic alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, alcohols, aldehydes and ketones and acids. It may be used as a 30 -40 minutes revision activity in class or as a homework assignment.

How to play

In the first part of the game just add the required number of hydrogen atoms to each carbon atom in the structure. This reinforces understanding of the tetra valency of carbon atom. In the next levels you will be given a starting point for each structure and then you have to add the required bonds, H atoms, C atoms, hetero atoms or functional group. Just click on atom or bond required from the side panels and place it on the grid to complete the structure. Understand the name as per the IUPAC rules of nomenclature and then practice making structures of aliphatic alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, alcohols, aldehydes and ketones and acids. Refer to the question and answer bank if needed.
